COLUMBUS, Ga., Aug. 4 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Aflac Incorporated (NYSE: AFL) announced today that it has priced $300 million (par value) of five-year senior notes with a coupon of 3.45%, and $450 million (par value) of thirty-year senior notes with a coupon of 6.45%. The five-year notes will be issued at a price of 99.926 to yield 3.466% and the thirty-year notes will be issued at a price of 99.499 to yield 6.488%. The company anticipates using the proceeds from this issuance for debt repayment, share repurchase and general corporate purposes.
Commenting on the pricing of the debt issue, Aflac Incorporated President and Chief Financial Officer Kriss Cloninger III commented: "With this debt issuance, we have enhanced our liquidity position and facilitated the repayment at maturity of yen 35 billion, or approximately $407 million at the current yen/dollar exchange rate, of Uridashi notes that mature in September 2011. In addition, this debt issuance, combined with our strong capital adequacy ratios in the United States and Japan, gives us increased confidence to resume our share repurchase activities either later this year or in early 2011."
