Aflac Cancer and Blood Disorders Center Gets New Logo

COLUMBUS, Ga., May 4, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Aflac, the number one provider of supplemental insurance in the United States and 11-time recipient of FORTUNE's World's Most Admired Companies designation, today helped unveil a new logo for the Aflac Cancer and Blood Disorders Center of Children's Healthcare of Atlanta. The new design features the Aflac logo and includes the image of America's beloved Aflac Duck. The Aflac Cancer Center is recognized as one of the top childhood cancer centers in the country by U.S. News & World Report and is a national leader among childhood cancer, hematology, and blood and marrow transplant programs, serving infants to young adults.

In 1995, Aflac Chairman and CEO Dan Amos was approached by Children's Healthcare of Atlanta with a request for $25,000 to help fund renovations for a center that cares for children with cancer and blood disorders. Aflac and Amos responded with a $3 million commitment and have since raised more than $75 million for childhood cancer treatment and research at the Aflac Cancer Center and at research institutions across the nation. Since 1995, Aflac has made childhood cancer its primary philanthropic cause. 

The logo is part of Children's overall re-branding campaign and will be on display at each of the three Children's hospital campuses in Atlanta, including Egleston, Scottish Rite and Hughes Spalding. The Aflac Cancer Center treats more than 350 new childhood cancer patients every year, more than 600 patients with various pediatric bleeding disorders, and 1,700 children with sickle cell disease. The hospital also performs an average of 60 blood and marrow transplants each year. Cancer is the leading cause of death due to illness in the United States for children under 15.
