AFGE Union Leader Responds To Democratic Party Platform
WASHINGTON, Sept. 4, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- American Federation of Government Employees National President J. David Cox Sr. today issued the following comment in response to the Democratic Party's 2012 platform:
The Democratic Party has laid out a vision for the country that focuses on restoring and growing the middle class, creating jobs, investing in the future and ensuring that everyone pays their fair share.
The platform details the party's unwavering support for government employees and all working Americans. Unions are the bedrock of a strong and vibrant middle class, and the Democratic Party has pledged to vigorously oppose any efforts to strip employees of collective bargaining rights.
Like AFGE and the 650,000 federal and D.C. government workers we represent, the Democratic Party understands the vital role that government programs and services play in the health and wellbeing of all Americans. Medicare and Social Security would be protected under the continued leadership of President Obama, while new investments in education, transportation and research will provide new jobs and economic growth for the country.
The American Federation of Government Employees (AFGE) is the largest federal employee union, representing 650,000 workers in the federal government and the government of the District of Columbia.
