AFGE Outraged Over Furloughs of Transportation Workers, Filibuster on Jobs Bill
WASHINGTON, March 1 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- John Gage, president of The American Federation of Government Employees (AFGE), the nation's largest union for federal employees which represents furloughed transportation workers issued the following statement.
"It is outrageous that the action of one U.S. Senator, Republican Jim Bunning of Kentucky, has resulted not only in the furlough of thousands of Department of Transportation employees but in fact put a halt to construction projects nationwide and impacted the ability of hundreds of construction workers to earn a living. Clearly it is another example of the flawed filibuster system which allows one Senator to hold hostage the fate of thousands of unemployed Americans with a phony claim of wanting fiscal responsibility.
"As the union which represents Department of Transportation workers , AFGE will do everything we can to ensure that DOT employees are not made to suffer unnecessarily because of the irresponsible actions of Senator Bunning," said AFGE President John Gage.
