AFGE Mourns Loss of Border Patrol Agents

Two agents killed in line of duty

WASHINGTON, May 12, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Two Border Patrol agents were killed Thursday morning when their vehicle reportedly was struck by a freight train as they pursued a group of suspected illegal immigrants near Gila Bend, Arizona.

The agents, Eduardo Rojas Jr. and Hector Clark, worked for the Customs and Border Protection's Yuma Sector in western Arizona. They were both members of the American Federation of Government Employees.

AFGE's National Executive Committee and National Border Patrol Council expressed profound sorrow over the tragic loss.

"This tragic incident is a stark reminder of the dangerous conditions our brave men and women on the front lines face on a daily basis," AFGE National President John Gage said. "Border Patrol agents, like all of our federal law enforcement officers, put themselves in harms' way every day that they put on the uniform."

"Our thoughts and prayers go out to the families and friends of Agents Rojas and Clark," AFGE National Border Patrol Council President George McCubbin said.
