AFGE Joins Rally to End Debt Ceiling Stalemate
Labor groups to demand action by Congress at noontime rally Thursday
WASHINGTON, July 27, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The American Federation of Government Employees will join with other labor organizations and groups in a noontime rally Thursday to demand that Congress raise the debt ceiling without harmful cuts to programs and services that millions of Americans rely on.
Hundreds of AFGE members will march to the Capitol to demand immediate action to raise the debt ceiling and avert an economic disaster. AFGE members also will call on Congress to end the budget stalemate at the Federal Aviation Administration that has resulted in 4,000 FAA employees being furloughed.
The rally will take place at noon Thursday (July 28) on the east side of the Capitol steps.
The American Federation of Government Employees (AFGE) is the largest federal employee union, representing 625,000 workers in the federal government and the government of the District of Columbia.
