WASHINGTON, Aug. 10, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Today, the American Federation of Government Employees announced its endorsement of Rep. Betty McCollum for the U.S. House of Representatives for Minnesota's 4th Congressional District.
"Today we're happy to announce our support of Congresswoman McCollum in her reelection bid this fall," said AFGE District 8 National Vice President Gregg James. "Betty is a true friend to working people and AFGE, and we know she'll keep doing great work in Congress."
"From her vocal support for the Environmental Protection Agency and the work they do, to ensuring consumers have protection from predatory lenders, it's clear that Rep. McCollum cares about her constituents and future generations of Minnesotans," said James. "As Congress and the administration ramp up more attacks on federal workers and their earned benefits, it's vital that we have more leaders like Betty in Congress fighting for the 2.1 million working people who keep this country running," added James.
More than 32,000 federal workers live in Minnesota – more than 9,000 of whom live in the fourth district – supporting the military, caring for veterans, ensuring the safety of the flying public, and getting Social Security recipients their benefits accurately and on time.
AFGE is the largest federal employee union in the country, representing 700,000 federal and D.C. government workers in all functions of government. District 8 has more than 10,000 dues-paying members in Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska, North Dakota, and South Dakota.
