WASHINGTON, Aug. 27, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- The American Federation of Government Employees today announced its endorsement of Kathy Manning for election to the U.S. House of Representatives for North Carolina's 13th Congressional District.
"Kathy Manning has spent the past 30 years giving back to her community in Greensboro, N.C. – providing a lifeline to those affected by the Great Recession, spurring economic development, creating good-paying jobs, and providing opportunities for poor and underprivileged children to excel," AFGE District 4 National Vice President Dan Doyle said.
"Kathy Manning is ready to take on Washington's broken political system and work across the aisle to get things done," Doyle said. "She understands that creating opportunity requires good-paying union jobs, affordable and accessible health care, and quality education and training to prepare us for the future."
More than 72,300 federal employees live in North Carolina – caring for veterans, supporting the military, ensuring our food is safe to eat, and getting Social Security recipients their benefits accurately and on time. There are more than 25,600 active and retired federal employees in the 13th Congressional District.
Manning said she was "thrilled to have the support of AFGE."
"Every day, AFGE members execute key public services for our citizens, from taking care of our veterans and military families to keeping our workplaces safe and our water clean," Manning said. "I look forward to being a partner with them in Congress as we stand together to fight for affordable health care, quality education, and economic opportunity for all North Carolinians."
