WASHINGTON, Oct. 10, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- The American Federation of Government Employees today announced its endorsement of Tedra Cobb for election this November to the U.S. House representing New York's 21st Congressional District.
"Tedra Cobb has lived and worked in upstate New York for over 30 years – raising a family and serving her community through elected office, non-profit work, and volunteer efforts," AFGE District 2 National Vice President Vincent Castellano said.
"As our next member of Congress, Tedra will continue fighting for working families in the North Country by protecting and expanding affordable and quality health care, promoting policies that will create good-paying jobs and spur local economic development, and making sure our laws and policies treat everyone equally regardless of what they look like or where they come from," Castellano said.
"With public-sector employees across this country facing unprecedented attacks on their workplace rights, it's more important than ever that we support candidates to local, state, and national office who will have our backs," Castellano said. "With Tedra Cobb in Washington, we will gain an ally who will fight for federal employees and the services we deliver to the American public."
More than 117,000 federal employees live in New York – caring for veterans, supporting the military, ensuring the safety of the flying public, and getting Social Security recipients their benefits accurately and on time. There are more than 11,700 active and retired federal employees in the 21st Congressional District.
AFGE is the largest federal employee union in the country, representing 700,000 federal and D.C. government workers in all functions of government. District 2 represents more than 45,000 members in Connecticut, New Hampshire, Maine, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Rhode Island, and Vermont.
