WASHINGTON, July 16, 2018 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The American Federation of Government Employees today announced its endorsement of Rob Davidson for the U.S. House of Representatives for Michigan's 2nd Congressional District.
"Rob Davidson's fight for middle-class, working families consistently indicates that he will always put people before corporate profits," American Federation of Government Employees District 7 National Vice President Dorothy James said.
"As a medical professional himself, Rob Davidson supports full funding and staffing of federal medical facilities in the Department of Veterans Affairs, in addition to supporting the limited use of non-VA care arranged through VA-run networks.
"Rob Davidson also supports a tax structure that is fairer and provides the majority of benefits to middle- and low-income families as well as small businesses in local communities. He opposes any tax schemes that would open the door to detrimental cuts in critical public benefits such as Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid."
Nearly 53,000 federal employees live in Michigan – supporting the military, caring for veterans, ensuring the safety of the flying public, and getting Social Security recipients their benefits accurately and on time. There are more than 7,600 current and retired federal workers in the 2nd Congressional District.
AFGE is the largest federal employee union in the country, representing 700,000 federal and D.C. government workers in all functions of government. District 7 has nearly 20,000 dues-paying members in Illinois, Michigan, and Wisconsin.
