WASHINGTON, Oct. 5, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Today, the American Federation of Government Employees announced its endorsement of Kara Eastman for election this November to the U.S. House representing Nebraska's 2nd Congressional District.
"This November the future of unions and working people are on the line, and Nebraskans need to ensure they elect someone who will fight for them," said AFGE District 8 National Vice President Gregg James. "Kara Eastman is exactly the leader we need in Washington to champion workers in Nebraska, and that's why we're announcing our support of her today."
"Kara believes in working people and living wages, and she wants to fight on behalf of both," said James. "She will push back against the outsourcing of public sector jobs and the anti-union attacks from the administration, and she believes in fully-funding Social Security and Veterans Affairs so those agencies can properly serve those in need. We're thrilled to support her this November and are excited to see her in Congress next year."
Nearly 17,000 federal workers live in Nebraska – more than 8,000 of whom live in the 2nd district – supporting the military, caring for veterans, ensuring the safety of the flying public, and getting Social Security recipients their benefits accurately and on time.
"I am grateful for the support of AFGE and am committed to fighting for the rights and benefits government employees deserve," said Eastman. "Our country relies on professional civil servants who are committed to meeting the needs of the American people, and we must stand together with them to ensure they have the resources to do the job well."
AFGE is the largest federal employee union in the country, representing 700,000 federal and D.C. government workers in all functions of government. District 8 has more than 10,000 dues-paying members in Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska, North Dakota, and South Dakota.
