WASHINGTON, Sept. 25, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Today, the American Federation of Government Employees announced its endorsement of Donna Shalala for election this November to the U.S. House representing Florida's 27th Congressional District.

"As the former Health and Human Services Secretary, Donna knows what's needed to run the government right, and knows what federal workers need to succeed in their job," said Kelley. "We know Donna will push for fair wages, fully-funded agencies, and protect our rights at work. She is a fighter, and she is more than ready to stand up for workers in Washington."

More than 79,000 federal workers and retirees live in Florida – nearly 26,000 of whom live in the 27th district – supporting the military, caring for veterans, ensuring the safety of the flying public, and getting Social Security recipients their benefits accurately and on time.

AFGE is the largest federal employee union in the country, representing 700,000 federal and D.C. government workers in all functions of government. District 5 has more than 50,000 dues-paying members in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, Tennessee, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands.
