WASHINGTON, July 19, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Today the American Federation of Government Employees announced its endorsement of Rep. Keith Ellison in his race to be Minnesota's next Attorney General.
"Congressman Ellison has been a great friend and staunch supporter of public servants during his time in Congress, and while we're sad to lose such an important ally in Washington, we know that he is an ideal fit as Minnesota's next Attorney General," said AFGE District 8 National Vice President Gregg James.
"For more than 10 years, Keith has proudly represented all Minnesotans on the national stage – fighting to protect the Environmental Protection Agency, working to ensure fair pay for public servants, and as a vocal supporter of the ongoing battle against privatization of the VA – and we know he'll bring that same zeal as Minnesota's top advocate," said James. "As a Minnesotan, I'm personally excited to see Keith fight for our needs and support us as our Attorney General."
More than 41,000 federal employees live in Minnesota, supporting the military, caring for veterans, ensuring the safety of the flying public, and getting Social Security recipients their benefits accurately and on time.
"During my time in Congress, I have been honored to stand with AFGE in the fight for fairness in the federal workforce," said Ellison. "As Minnesota's next Attorney General, our work together will continue, as we fight to protect the rights of the more than 41,000 federal workers, and their families, who call Minnesota home."
AFGE is the largest federal employee union in the country, representing 700,000 federal and D.C. government workers in all functions of government. District 8 has more than 10,000 dues-paying members in Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska, North Dakota, and South Dakota.
