WASHINGTON, Oct. 9, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Today, the American Federation of Government Employees announced its endorsement of Cindy Axne for election this November to the U.S. House representing Iowa's 3rd Congressional District.
"As a fifth-generation Iowan, Cindy Axne knows exactly what her constituents need, and that's why we're excited to endorse her Congressional run today," said AFGE District 8 National Vice President Gregg James. "Cindy will be a great friend to public servants because she believes in the work we do. She will protect our rights at work, and she will fight to ensure we receive fair pay for the services we provide to the American people."
"At a time when working people are being left behind by Congress and the administration, it's vital we get more leaders like Cindy Axne to Washington to fight for us," said James. "She will stand up against privatization efforts that will hurt veterans, endanger American travelers, and waste taxpayer resources, and we know she will ensure that the men and women who run this country always have a voice at work."
Nearly 9,000 federal workers live in Iowa – more than 6,000 of whom live in the 3rd district – supporting the military, caring for veterans, ensuring the safety of the flying public, and getting Social Security recipients their benefits accurately and on time.
"Federal workers play a vital role in our economy here in Iowa and provide valuable services to many of our communities, particularly for veterans," said Axne. "In Congress, I will fight to protect our civil servants, and make sure that a balanced budget does not come at the expense of hard-earned salaries for our government employees."
AFGE is the largest federal employee union in the country, representing 700,000 federal and D.C. government workers in all functions of government. District 8 has more than 10,000 dues-paying members in Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska, North Dakota, and South Dakota.
