Affirmed Networks and HP Collaborate to Deliver a Carrier-Grade OpenStack Service Platform for Mobile Networks
-- Industry Leaders Collaborate to Ensure OpenStack Solutions for Mobile Networks Possess the Performance, Reliability and Scalability Required by Leading Global Operators
-- Optimized Solution has Strong Traction with "Tier One Operators" Worldwide
ACTON, Mass., Oct. 22, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Affirmed Networks, the leader in virtualized mobile networks, today announced that it has collaborated with HP to deliver a "carrier grade" OpenStack NFV service platform for mobile networks. The platform, which combines Affirmed Networks best-in-class NFV mobile packet core solution, and HP's optimized OpenStack solution, provides Communications Services Providers (CSPs) with the flexibility, reliability and scalability needed to support the deployment of 4G and 5G services. The combined solution has strong traction with "Tier One" operators worldwide.
Today, while many of the world's largest enterprises rely on OpenStack software, the ability for Mobile Operators to successfully deploy NFV applications on open source platforms requires additional capabilities. HP offers these capabilities by providing HP Helion OpenStack Carrier Grade, which provides the benefits of OpenStack, with an added level of optimization that provides the reliability and performance operators require. Similarly, Affirmed Networks' industry-leading NFV solution provides operators with the flexibility, reliability and performance required to deliver next-generation services. By combining HP Helion OpenStack Carrier Grade with Affirmed Networks' Mobile Content Cloud solution, a fully-virtualized mobile packet core, the companies have come together to provide operators with a "best in class" mobile packet core solution for OpenStack environments.
As operators worldwide continue to move toward virtualized architectures, this solution will support this shift, significantly accelerating the design, trial and deployment of NFV-based services.
"Carriers worldwide are strongly motivated to move to virtualized networks running on OpenStack environments due to the many capital and operational savings this architecture provides," said Amit Tiwari, VP Strategic Alliances and Systems Engineering, Affirmed Networks. "It is critical, however, that the virtualized infrastructure deliver the levels of reliability, elasticity and performance required to support 'carrier-grade' networks. Affirmed Networks is committed to continuing to lead this evolution, and as such we are working closely with key partners, like HP, to deliver solutions that meet the stringent requirements of our customers as they reinvent the way mobile networks are built."
"We continue to see strong interest in NFV from CSPs who want to gain greater agility against non-traditional competitors from a content delivery perspective," Werner Schaefer, vice president, Network Functions Virtualization, HP. "We are committed to working strategically with industry leaders like Affirmed Networks who can help us provide open, carrier-grade solutions that allow our customers to drive top-line growth."
NFV Adoption: Not "if" but "when"?
According to Infonetics Research, 93 percent of operators said they plan to deploy NFV. Additionally, recent research from ACG quantifies the capital and operating expense savings related to NFV, which, can be achieved as soon as the first year. * Today, Affirmed Networks has more than 25 customers and 40+ trials underway across all major geographies.
*Recently, ACG Research conducted research related to the economic benefits of deploying NFV. The findings, and the full report which was sponsored partly by Affirmed Networks, can be found in their entirety here: http://www.affirmednetworks.com/tco-report/
