AFA Renews Partnership with Arlington Sports for the 2014 AFA Cycling Classic
ARLINGTON, Va., March 27, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Air Force Association will partner again with Arlington Sports, Inc. to host the region's premiere cycling event, the 2014 Air Force Association Cycling Classic (AFACC), June 7-8 in Arlington, Va. The AFA Wounded Airman Program (WAP) will be the sole official beneficiary and will receive a portion of the funds raised from the event. WAP supports the work of the Air Force Wounded Warrior office and directly helps seriously ill and injured airmen, and their caregivers, financially and with adapted equipment and lifestyle items.
The 2014 AFACC encourages cyclists of all abilities to participate in its various events, which include two days of competitive and noncompetitive races – for professionals and amateurs and adults and kids! Individuals or corporate teams have the opportunity to help raise funds for WAP through their participation in the AFACC Challenge Ride, an amateur, non-competitive, participatory ride, open to all cyclists.
Events begin on Saturday, June 7, with the AFACC's Clarendon Cup Pro/Am races. The Air Force Memorial will host a "Salute to Wounded Warriors" concert by The United States Air Force Band Saturday night. Then on Sunday, June 8, the AFACC Challenge Ride will take place, where participants will start and end in Crystal City. The ride will be held on a closed, 15km circuit in and around the Pentagon, Crystal City, and the Air Force Memorial. Men's Pro, Women's and amateur races will complete the day's schedule later that day.
"AFA is thrilled to team up with Arlington Sports again for this year's Cycling Classic," said Craig McKinley, president of AFA. "It is truly an energizing event that presents us with an exciting opportunity to connect with the community and raise awareness of the hardships facing our airmen in need of our support."
