AFA-CWA Elects New Leadership
Veda Shook Elected to Take Helm Following Patricia Friend's 15 Years of Leadership
LAS VEGAS, April 28 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The highest governing body of the Association of Flight Attendants-CWA (AFA-CWA), the Board of Directors, ushered in a new decade today by electing new union leadership. The Board of Directors selected Veda Shook as AFA-CWA International President, taking over the top position from Patricia Friend who will retire on December 31, 2010 after 15 years of leadership. The Board also elected Sara Nelson as International Vice President and re-elected Kevin Creighan for his second term as International Secretary-Treasurer.
President-elect Veda Shook is an 18-year Alaska Airlines flight attendant and has served as AFA-CWA's International Vice President since 2007. She brings to the position extensive experience as an activist and leader, as well as an advocate for all flight attendants. In charge of AFA-CWA's organizing department, President-elect Shook has led three successful organizing campaigns recently at Lynx Aviation, Ryan International and USA3000, and currently oversees the Delta/NWA upcoming representation election.
Vice President-elect Sara Nelson currently is the Communications Chairperson for United Airlines, where she has been a flight attendant for 14 years. In that capacity, she was in charge of communicating the myriad of United flight attendant issues to members and also worked with various unions across the country on solidarity building.
International Secretary-Treasurer Kevin Creighan has served since 2005. Creighan is uniquely qualified to determine how the International office can best meet membership needs due to his extensive experience as a United flight attendant, local leader and in accounting and membership.
