AFA Announces Mike and Gail Donley Spouse Scholarship Recipients
ARLINGTON, Va., July 2, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Air Force Association (AFA) today announced the 12 recipients of the 2014 Mike and Gail Donley Spouse Scholarship. AFA will present $2,500 to each awardee to assist spouses of airmen and Department of the Air Force civilian employees who are in pursuit of undergraduate or graduate degrees.
The Air Force Spouse Scholarship program is designed to encourage Air Force spouses worldwide to pursue associate, bachelor, or graduate/postgraduate degrees. Recipients reflect a cross-section of today's U.S. Air Force, embracing our Total Force family of active duty, guard, reserve airmen and civilians.
"Congratulations to all the recipients of this scholarship for pursuing their educational and career goals," said George Muellner, AFA Chairman of the Board. "We're pleased to have taken a part in their future through this new scholarship program."
AFA named its spouse scholarship program "The Mike and Gail Donley Spouse Scholarship" to provide a lasting tribute to the former Secretary of the Air Force and his wife for their exemplary support of the Air Force Family. Michael Donley was the 22nd Secretary of the Air Force, with more than 30 distinguished years of service in the national security community, including service in the Senate, White House and the Pentagon. Secretary Donley was the longest-serving secretary in U.S. Air Force history. The Donley's have been unwavering champions of airmen and their families.
AFA supports education at all levels with various programs, scholarships, and grants for eligible Total Force members, their dependents, as well as civilians. Additionally AFA promotes science, technology, math and engineering (STEM) objectives through its CyberPatriot program, and educator grants at the elementary and secondary school level.
