SACRAMENTO, Calif., May 4 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Aerojet, a GenCorp (NYSE: GY) company, announced today that it had the honor of hosting Aegis Ballistic Missile Defense (BMD) Program Director Rear Admiral Joseph Horn at its Sacramento headquarters.
Aegis BMD is the sea-based element of the Ballistic Missile Defense System (BMDS) being developed by the Missile Defense Agency to provide a mobile line of defense against hostile ballistic missiles in the mid-course phase of flight. Aerojet is also providing the Throttling Divert and Attitude Control System (TDACS) for the Block IB version of SM-3.
This is the Admiral's first visit to Aerojet after taking over as the Aegis BMD Program Director late last year. Aerojet executives and the TDACS program workforce gathered to hear the Admiral's message. The Admiral provided an overview of where Aegis BMD fits into the BMDS, discussed recent policy developments associated with the Phased Adaptive Approach (PAA), and emphasized the important role that SM-3 Block IB will play in the PAA. He thanked Aerojet for their strong past performance in missile defense and encouraged them to continue their hard work and efforts. The Admiral also presented an Aegis Excellence Award to Duke Wong, a long-time Aerojet employee who recently passed away. The Admiral toured the facility throughout the afternoon to better learn about all the programs that Aerojet supports.
"We are honored and pleased that the Admiral came to address our workforce today," said Vice President of Defense Systems, Dick Bregard. "His presence at the Aerojet facility means a lot to us."
