AEC Joins China Trade Task Force In Campaign To Combat Illegal Chinese Aluminum Subsidies
The Aluminum Extruders Council joins CTTF in calling for action against China's market manipulations
WASHINGTON, Sept. 14, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Aluminum Extruders Council, an international association dedicated to advancing the effective use of aluminum extrusion in North America, announced today that it was joining in partnership with Century Aluminum, Brazeway, and the United Steelworkers Union to continue the China Trade Task Force's (CTTF) call for action to remedy the problems caused by China's excess capacity.
"As an off-take for its excess primary aluminum supply, China's exports of semi-finished products have increased significantly harming producers up and down the value chain," said AEC President Jeff Henderson. "The AEC is committed to helping the CTTF address these issues."
Over the last nine months, U.S. primary aluminum capacity has plummeted by more than 60 percent – with more than 3,000 Americans losing their jobs as a result. Unfortunately for the aluminum industry, this trend will likely continue if China's excess capacity is not addressed.
"We can't wait around any longer," said CTTF Executive Director Mark Duffy. "China's illegal trade practices are crippling the U.S. aluminum market. The addition of AEC to our coalition sends a strong message that it is time for serious action, because American workers and their families don't have time to waste."
ABOUT US: China Trade Task Force is committed to supporting and saving tens of thousands of American jobs. The U.S. Aluminum market directly creates over 10,600 American jobs, indirectly supports tens of thousands more jobs and contributes over $6 billion in U.S. economic output each year. China is job hacking American workers and providing illegal subsidies to Chinese state owned aluminum producers. For more information, please visit us online at www.chinatradetaskforce.com
