AEC Group Awarded Contract for Consol Energy Center
PITTSBURGH, April 15 /PRNewswire/ -- AEC Group has recently been awarded the trade contract for "Bid Package #11C Converged Network, Unified Communications, and Wireless Infrastructure" for the Consol Energy Center (CEC), the newly constructed arena in Pittsburgh and future home of the Pittsburgh Penguins.
The contract scope involves the design, delivery, build, and installation of a turnkey solution for the Arena's Converged Network, Wireless LAN, and Unified Communication systems. This solution encompasses all active infrastructure, switches, firewalls, routers, wireless components, gateways, telephones, voicemail, uninterruptible power supplies, cross-connections, software, and ancillary equipment. These solution components will provide the "data lifeline" that sustains everything from ticket windows to instant replay systems, and even helps control the escalators and elevators that will deliver people to their seats.
Also included in the contract is a comprehensive technology refresh for the existing Pittsburgh Penguins and SMG technology system. The current system includes physical computers that will be updated or replaced, and augmented by HP platforms, a modern storage solution from EMC, and virtualization technology from VMware. The technology system is required to support the day-to-day operations of the Pittsburgh Penguins administrative staff.
"AEC Group is pleased to have been chosen as the Prime Contractor for Bid Package #11C," stated Marty Connelly, Managing Partner at AEC Group. "This project truly encompasses all of AEC Group's capabilities as an End-to-End IT Solutions Provider. As a local company, delivering such a significant technology solution in Pittsburgh is exciting, as AEC Group services are being leveraged on a project that should have a very positive effect on the Penguins organization, and the city."
The arena, which has a seating capacity of 18,087 for hockey games, will not only be home to the Pittsburgh Penguins, but will host a variety of other sporting events, concerts, and exhibitions. The Consol Energy Center's official opening will be in September of 2010.
