Advocate Says SCOTUS Ruling on EPA and Regulatory Costs a Relief to Small Businesses

WASHINGTON, June 29, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Small Business & Entrepreneurship Council (SBE Council) president & CEO Karen Kerrigan issued the following statement in response to the U.S. Supreme Court's ruling on the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and regulatory costs:

"Today's ruling by the Supreme Court is a relief to small business owners who remain deeply concerned about the full slate of EPA regulations, either in the works or finalized, that impose burdensome red tape and costs.  Costs matter to small businesses, and the Supreme Court has ruled that costs need to matter to EPA regulators. Small business owners have consistently expressed their concerns about the weighty costs of a range of proposed regulation – for example, the rulemakings on navigable waters' and carbon – yet EPA continues to ignore their real concerns.  It only makes sense for the EPA to conduct proper cost-benefit analyses, and listen to small business owners in all their rulemakings.  Regulatory accumulation is crushing small businesses, hurting job growth, and our nation's competitiveness.  More accountability and transparency at the EPA means better regulatory outcomes for America's small businesses and our environment.  The need to consider costs in regulatory undertakings is critical to ensuring a healthy economy and greater opportunities for all Americans."
