Shares of FuelCell Energy (NASDAQ: FCEL) were up 5.51% to $1.34 in afternoon trading Wednesday after fellow fuel cell maker Ballard Power Systems (NASDAQ: BLDP) announced a new $80 million deal with Volkswagen (VLKAY). Ballard said it had signed a Technology Solutions transaction with Volkswagen for the transfer of auto-related fuel cell intellectual property and a two-year extension to their engineering services contract. The engineering services contract between Ballard and Volkswagen includes the design and manufacturing of fuel cell stacks. The extension to this agreement, first signed in 2013, lengthens it through March 2019. Arotech Corporation (NASDAQ: ARTX) in January announced that its Power Systems Division has recently received $17 million in new orders for batteries and power systems. Approximately $10 million of the orders was from a foreign Defense Ministry for military batteries and chargers for tactical communication systems. The remaining $7 million was for batteries and chargers for a variety of customers. $1 million worth of the orders has already been delivered.
