ADT Sues Three Alarm Salespeople and Two Companies for Unfair and Unlawful Business Practices
BOCA RATON, Fla., March 24 /PRNewswire/ -- As part of its continuing quest to prevent deceptive behavior from door-to-door home security salespeople, ADT Security Services has filed a lawsuit against Tom Brady, Susan Brady and Lance Woods of Memphis-based The Alarm Company, LLC. In addition to The Alarm Company, the suit was filed against Security Networks, LLC of West Palm Beach, Fla. which appears to be providing security services for systems installed by The Alarm Company.

The suit alleges that during a sales call last December, Woods coerced 95-year-old Alice Johnson of Knoxville, Tenn. into switching out her ADT system and signing a contract with Security Networks.
According to the lawsuit, Woods told Ms. Johnson that he was an ADT employee and that the upgrade was necessary because there had been recent violent crime in her neighborhood. "I think it was the lowest thing that could have been done, to come in here and lie to get some work," Johnson said.
ADT has taken previous legal action against Tom and Susan Brady for a number of unlawful and unethical actions. Also, the Mid-South Better Business Bureau has logged dozens of complaints against the Bradys and their businesses, giving them an "F" rating.
"The Alarm Company has had a very poor record over the past several years," said Randy Hutchinson, president of the Mid-South BBB in Memphis. "The complainants are often the children or caregivers of elderly homeowners who allege that The Alarm Company salespeople knock on their doors and make up stories to pressure them into buying something they don't want or need."
Last summer, ADT announced it was initiating legal action against individual salespeople who commit deceptive sales practices. ADT has received complaints from consumers in at least 22 states.
"We believe it is our responsibility as the nation's leading home security provider to aggressively pursue cases against people who lie, mislead and harass unsuspecting victims," said David Bleisch, ADT chief legal officer.
