Admiral Vernon Clark Becomes Chairman of the Board of SRI International
MENLO PARK, Calif., March 30 /PRNewswire/ -- SRI International, an independent nonprofit research and development institute, announced today that Admiral Vernon Clark has been elected Chairman of SRI International's Board of Directors. Samuel Armacost, who has been Chairman of SRI's Board since 1998, will remain on the Board, continuing his three decades of service to SRI.
Admiral Clark will spend time at SRI in Menlo Park and in Washington, D.C., which is near many of SRI's R&D funders such as the Department of Defense, DARPA, National Science Foundation, National Institutes of Health, Department of Education, and other government agencies. SRI, based in Silicon Valley, has been expanding on the East Coast, recently opening new research facilities in Shenandoah Valley, Virginia and St. Petersburg, Florida.
Admiral Clark joined SRI's Board in 2007. He retired from the U.S. Navy in 2005 after completing the Navy's second-longest tenure as Chief of Naval Operations. He is a member of the Defense Policy Board and is a distinguished businessman, currently serving on the Boards of Raytheon Company, Horizon Lines, Rolls Royce North America, and the World Board of Governors of the USO.

Mr. Armacost has been a member of SRI's Board of Directors since 1981. For more than 22 years, he worked at Bank of America and BankAmerica Corporation, where he was President and CEO from 1981 to 1986.
