ADL Welcomes Arrest in Maryland Terror Plot

WASHINGTON, Dec. 9, 2010 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) welcomed the arrest of a Baltimore, Maryland man for allegedly attempting to detonate what he believed to be a car bomb outside the Armed Forces recruiting station in Cantonsville, Maryland yesterday.

Antonio Martinez, 21, who is a naturalized citizen and reportedly goes by Muhammed Hussain, was charged with attempting to murder federal officers and employees and attempting to use a weapon of mass destruction.

"We commend Federal authorities for the intensive investigation that led to this arrest, including undercover communications with Martinez through his Facebook page," said David Friedman, ADL Washington, D.C. Regional Director. "Martinez's plot is the latest in a disturbing series of plots and attacks by American Muslim extremists targeting the U.S. military.  Fortunately, law enforcement has remained ahead of many of these threats, stopping them before a terrorist attack could take place."

The incident brings the number of American citizens charged on terror related charges in 2010 to 49, according to the ADL's Center on Extremism, which monitors and tracks extremist activity in the U.S. and abroad.
