ADL Condemns Doll Covered in Racial Slurs Reported Outside Church in Laurel, MD

WASHINGTON, Nov. 2 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) strongly condemned reported vandalism found outside of the City of Zion Church, in Laurel, MD.  The vandalism allegedly included a brown doll hanging from a tree by what appears to be a noose covered in racial slurs and profanities.

"This clear act of intimidation using racially charged slurs and a noose is despicable and strikes at the heart of our country's established principles and morals of equality and tolerance" said Emily Hollenberg, ADL Assistant Regional Director. "The ADL applauds law enforcement's concerted effort to bring the perpetrators in this case to justice--sending them and the entire community the clear message that such hatred and bigotry are not tolerated by our society."

ADL commends the Laurel Police Department for their immediate response and vigorous investigation of the incident as a presumed hate crime.

Hate crime statutes have been adopted by 45 states and the District of Columbia.  Many of those laws are based on a model statute crafted by ADL, which has long been in the forefront of national and state efforts to deter and counteract hate-motivated criminal activity.
