Adirondack Radiology Associates Utilizes the MedInformatix RIS to Effectively Route More than 70,000 Images per Year
Efficient Imagine Management Operation Allows Adirondack Radiology Associates to Grow Imaging Workload without Increasing Staffing Levels
GLEN FALLS, N.Y., Feb. 2, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Adirondack Radiology Associates, a premier radiology group located in upstate New York, leverages the MedInformatix Radiology Information System (RIS) to effectively manage imaging for its four freestanding diagnostic centers—North Country Imaging Center, Saratoga Imaging Center, Advanced Imaging at Baybrook and MRI at the Pruyn Pavilion. The group also recently switched its billing operations to the MedInformatix solution. The RIS handles images for a variety of tests performed and reviewed by the twelve staff radiologists with the group, including ultrasound, x-rays, mammography, MRI, CT, DEXA, vein scans, and PET.
The prior RIS system in use at Adirondack Radiology Associates was not HIPAA compliant, and the company was prompted to look for a better solution. Another challenge facing the group was that they operated two separate databases of patients and needed the new RIS to efficiently integrate the two data sets into a unified system. The radiology group initially selected a RIS available from their previous billing provider, but after two weeks of operation, quickly understood the system was not able to meet their needs. MedInformatix's robust RIS was chosen among several other competitors for its user friendliness, easy customizations, and HIPAA compliance.
Adirondack Radiology Associates handles more than 70,000 annual imaging cases, with approximately 40,000 from their two own facilities and 30,000 from outside locations. Information coming from the group's PACS system is seamlessly linked to MedInformatix's RIS, providing the group with a truly integrated imaging and patient management system.
"What has impressed us the most with MedInformatix is their eagerness to adjust the RIS to our needs, instead of expecting us to bend workflow practices to fit their system," said Ellen Barrass, Administrative Assistant at Adirondack Radiology Associates. "They suggested some very efficient workflow adjustments, which allowed us to better serve the needs of both the physicians and patients. The integration achieved with MedInformatix decreases our mailing costs dramatically and allows us to simply absorb additional imaging and patient data volume without the need to hire more staff."
A user-friendly interface allows the Adirondack Radiology Associates staff to make back-end customizations themselves, enabling the freedom to tailor the RIS to their particular needs.
"Larger-scale customizations for the RIS are typically handled same-day," said Ms. Barrass. "MedInformatix features very fast service, is very accommodating with every one of our requests, and works quickly to be sure we see no interruptions in service."
Formed in 1971, Adirondack Radiology Associates' physicians hold various sub-specialties including magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), positron emission tomography (PET), bone densitometry, musculoskeletal imaging, and interventional radiology. For more information, visit www.adirondackradiology.com.
