Background: ADEPT Driver, a California-based provider of the most evaluated and effective crash reduction programs available, will demonstrate at the Lifesavers Conference how targeted neurocognitive training embedded in ADEPT's products can address the causes of technology-induced inattention while driving. These causes include lack of skills in visual cognition and memory, and impaired hazard detection and risk perception fueled by driver complacency and cognitive dissonance. A dozen insurance companies use ADEPT's products to reduce claims frequency and severity.
Using computer-based driving simulations, ADEPT Driver is able to gauge a driver's safety performance and then modify their behavior with neurocognitive training in order to reduce crashes.
"If you want to modify unsafe driving behavior you first need to provide the user with skills, behaviors, and perceptions of what safe driving behavior entails. It's behavior modification 101," said Dr. Richard Harkness, CEO of ADEPT Driver.
ADEPT Driver's flagship product, teenSMART, specifically addresses the causes of crashes among teenage drivers. ADEPT's Lifelong Driver is designed to reduce crashes among mature drivers. A new product aimed at drivers ages 20-60 is in production and will be available in fall 2019. ADEPT Driver also collects granular data on psychometric driving simulations and provides predictive analytics opportunities to insurers. ADEPT uses this data to refine its products and improve treatments for technology-induced inattention.
The Lifesavers Conference convenes traffic safety and public health professionals, researchers, advocates, practitioners and students committed to sharing best practices, research, and policy initiatives to improve highway safety.
