NEW YORK, April 20, 2017 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- ADAPT Community Network (formerly United Cerebral Palsy of New York City) will host a half-day Family Connect Summit for hundreds of families with disabilities and practitioners in the field on Wednesday, April 26th. The event will include expert panel discussions, presentations and vendor exhibits to showcase the latest supports and services available in the sector from over 50 nonprofits, governmental agencies, universities, and corporations working to advance the lives of individuals with disabilities and their families in New York City.
The conference covers a wide-array of topics to guide families coping with a variety of challenges in the changing disabilities arena. The adult programs and schools of the ADAPT Community Network already support people who have many disabilities beyond cerebral palsy. Among the topics are: the Front Door process with OPWDD system; government benefits; managed care; counseling interventions for behavioral challenges; Autism and ASD; community habilitation; working with your child's school; environmental modifications and assistive technologies.
Some of the highlights of the day include: a panel discussion, titled "Achieving Conflict-Free Case Management Across the New York State OPWDD Service System, featuring ADAPT's CEO Edward R. Matthews and panelists Kate Marley, Deputy Director, Division of Person-Centered Supports, OPWDD and Donna Colonna, CEO, Services for the Underserved; and a presentation about the frequent overlap of Autism and ASD, titled "The Worry Bug Strikes Again: Strategies for ASD & Anxiety, by Sarah Kern, LCSW, Clinical Assistant Professor of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at the Child Study Center at NYU Langone Medical Center.
