ADA Honors State and Local Dental Societies for Their Outreach Programs
2010 Golden Apple Awards
ORLANDO, Fla., Oct. 9 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The American Dental Association (ADA) continues to honor state and local dental societies across the nation with the 2010 Golden Apple Awards. The Golden Apple Awards program, now in its 22nd year, recognizes outstanding achievement in dental society activities and excellence in leadership.
The 2010 Golden Apple Awards will be presented through the end of the year to the following societies:
- Legislative Achievement —The Rhode Island Dental Association, "Project Gaspee," received the award in the constituent society category with a total membership of fewer than 1,000 dentists. The Virginia Dental Association (VDA), "VDA Non-Covered Services," received the award for a constituent society with total membership of more than 1,000 dentists.
- Excellence in Membership Recruitment and Retention Activity —The Michigan Dental Association, "Non-member - Journal Marketing Campaign," for membership recruitment. The Sacramento District Dental Society, "New Member Retention," and the Michigan Dental Association, "ComNet Reinstatement Campaign," received awards for membership retention.
- Excellence in Dental Health Promotion to the Public – The Massachusetts Dental Society, "Children's Oral Health Awareness Campaign."
- Excellence in Member-Related Services/Benefits —The Pennsylvania Dental Association, "Component Relations Outreach Program," and the California Dental Association (CDA), "CDA Practice Support/CDA Compass," both received awards for the dental societies with total membership of more than 1,000 dentists.
- Outstanding Achievement in the Promotion of Dental Ethics— The Michigan Dental Association (MDA), "MDA Dental Ethics Promotion."
- Achievement in Dental School/Student Involvement in Organized Dentistry —The San Antonio District Dental Society, "Great Expectations Mentoring Program Kick-Off."
- Excellence in Science Fair Program Support and Promotion — The Washington State Dental Association/Kitsap County Dental Society, "Washington State Science and Engineering Fair."
- Excellence in Dentist Well-Being Activities —The Michigan Dental Association (MDA), "MDA Dentist Well-Being Activities."
- Excellence in Access to Dental Care Programs —The Virginia Dental Association, "Virginia Dental Association Foundation," received the award in the constituent category. The Cincinnati Dental Society, "Leave No Vets Behind," received the award in the component category.
- The Green Apple –Excellence in Environmentally Sustainable Programs and Education — The Ohio Dental Association, "Ohio Good Deed Program."
- Open Category — The New Hampshire Dental Society, "Something to Smile About," received the award for the constituent category. The Queens County (NY) Dental Society, "Women Dentists Conference," received the award in the component category. The Open Category is for programs that do not clearly or appropriately fit in the other categories.
- Inspiring Careers in Dental Education award —Joseph P. Connor, D.D.S., University of Texas Health Science Center San Antonio Dental School.
Golden Apple Awards were also presented at the ADA 24 New Dentist Conference, which took place June 26 in San Diego. Thomas W. Smyth, D.D.S, Minnesota Dental Association received the New Dentist Leadership Award. Brent Kessler, D.D.S., Colorado Dental Association received the Outstanding Leadership in Mentoring Award. Christopher D. Morgan, D.M.D., Michigan Dental Association, received the New Dentist Legislative Leadership Award.
