CARLSBAD, Calif., Sept. 15, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- When it comes to careers, some may seem more attractive than others. Perception is not the same as the reality, particularly for overrated occupations like Advertising Account Executive, Author, Broadcaster, Photographer, Public Relations Executive, and Stockbroker. These jobs can be stressful, involve long hours and have a high turnover.
"The idea of becoming an Advertising Account Executive and schmoozing clients over bourbon and steaks seems exciting but it's a far cry from reality," says Kyle Kensing, Online Content Editor, CareerCast. "For broadcasters, the attraction of appearing on television might bring some into the field initially, but the poor outlook, increasingly competitive marketplace and demands weed out many," says Kyle Kensing, Online Content Editor, CareerCast.
Finding ways of generating revenue is the chief concern of a Corporate Executive, a job that regularly ranks among the most stressful tracked by the Jobs Rated report. The oversight of an organization takes long hours, and an ability to deal with many different types of personalities. And, within most organizations, the proverbial buck stops with the top-level executive, meaning failures ultimately rest at her or his feet.
CareerCast.com's Most Underrated Jobs of 2016 feature careers that might not get the same kind of attention or seem as glamorous as the Most Overrated – but they are great options for job seekers who want to make an impact.
Consider a career in Human Resources, which involves helping great candidates connect with open positions. For those who want to make an impact on the well-being of others, careers in healthcare offer great opportunities. Diagnostic Medical Sonographer ranked in the Top 10. US News and World Report rates it as one of the best healthcare jobs that do not require a bachelor's degree. Medical Technologist or Dietitian, are two other healthcare fields among our most underrated.
Environmental Engineer is a fast-growing field with lucrative opportunities. An Environmental Engineer's contributions to the community at-large, like finding more efficient ways for the use of energy, can have long-lasting effects, which puts it on our list of underrated jobs.
