The wine's dramatic high wire arrival was part of Georges Duboeuf's nationwide Nouveau Cirque celebration, featuring circus theme parties with jugglers, acrobats and other artistic performances. According to French law, Beaujolais Nouveau is released at one minute past midnight on the third Thursday of November. This decades-old tradition is celebrated worldwide with creative events, heralding the wine's arrival. Beaujolais Nouveau is made from hand-harvested Gamay grapes and bottled six weeks after harvest. Georges Duboeuf, the number one French wine brand in the U.S., is known for throwing the largest and most creative Nouveau celebrations, and this year was no exception.
"This year we celebrate Nouveau Cirque parties in a contemporary circus spirit to capture the excitement of Nouveau and the limitless possibilities for its enjoyment," said Franck Duboeuf, co-proprietor of Les Vins Georges Duboeuf. "Beaujolais Nouveau is a youthful wine with a fresh vibe. It is an explosion of flavor on the palate with bright red fruits and rich, floral aromas. It is sure to be a crowd pleaser!"
In New York, Molly Sims, whose outfit was coordinated by style guru, Derek Warburton, uncorked the wine and toasted the crowd of 100 invited top chefs, retailers, wine, food and lifestyle writers. Guests dined on a circus-themed menu by celebrity chef, Marc Murphy – a judge on Food Network's "Chopped" - and owner of Landmarc restaurants and Benchmarc Events. Deutsch & Sons, the exclusive U.S. importer for Les Vins Georges Duboeuf, noted that Duboeuf Nouveau parties were taking place in almost every state from coast to coast to capture the excitement of the wine's release, starting from midnight uncorkings in Boston and Savannah and ending with a "Nu Beau" block party in San Diego's historic Gas Lamp Quarter for more than 2,000 people.
Beaujolais Nouveau is the perfect wine for a party and pairs nicely with a variety of cuisine, from burgers to holiday turkey. This versatile wine is best consumed slightly chilled.
