'Actors and Others' Cites Pet Overpopulation as the Biggest Animal Cruelty
Observes National Prevention of Animal Cruelty Month with Spay-Neuter Message
NORTH HOLLYWOOD, Calif., April 7 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Actors and Others for Animals, a Los Angeles based animal welfare organization dedicated to ending the pet overpopulation problem, is observing National Prevention of Animal Cruelty month by encouraging residents to spay or neuter the family pet(s). "We passionately believe that pet overpopulation is the greatest breeder of animal cruelty," remarks Executive Director Susan Taylor, "because it promotes a false and harmful impression that there will always be a loving and permanent home for every dog or cat born, when in fact many are born merely to be killed." Actors and Others is a leading spay-neuter assistance organization in Southern California, subsidizing hundreds of spay-neuter surgeries each month for senior citizens, the handicapped, AIDS patients, and other pet guardians living on a low or fixed income. The spay-neuter program partners with low-cost veterinarians throughout Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino and Ventura Counties.
It is estimated that on average, 500 dogs and cats enter shelters in the Los Angeles area every day, with more than fifty percent being euthanized in order to manage the city's pet overpopulation dilemma. Actors and Others, a non-profit organization, believes the number one way to stop overpopulation is to dramatically reduce the number of pets born, many of which will end up in a city shelter and be euthanized, through low-cost, high-volume spay and neuter programs.
Individuals seeking spay-neuter assistance must personally call the Actors and Others helpline to speak with a counselor, by calling 818.755.6045 or 818.755.6323, Monday through Friday between 9:00 A.M. to 4:00 P.M.
National Prevention of Animal Cruelty month, an annual marketing campaign of the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) , is dedicated to preventing animal cruelty throughout local communities across the United States.
