Activity Abounds at Walter P. Chrysler Museum in August
AUBURN HILLS, Mich., Aug. 8, 2011 /PRNewswire/ --
WHAT: The Walter P. Chrysler Museum is hosting four public events during the month of August:
- Movie Night at the Museum featuring Deuce of Spades, Friday, Aug. 19, 7 – 11 p.m.
- Safe Families Expo, sponsored by Dodge, Saturday, Aug. 13, 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.
- Cruise Nights, Wednesdays, Aug. 10 and 24, 5:30 – 8:30 p.m.
WHERE: One Chrysler Dr., Auburn Hills, Mich., 48326 – exit 78 (Chrysler Dr.) off I-75
DETAILS: Movie Night at the Museum – Friday, Aug. 19, 7 – 11 p.m.
Co-sponsored by the Prowler Owners Association and the Michigan Hot Rod Association, the evening features:
- 7 p.m. – Display of member vehicles on the Museum's front grounds spotlighting the #32 Black Roadster, a key character in the Deuce of Spades storyline and owned by the film's maker Faith Granger.
- 8:45 p.m. – Premiere Michigan showing of Deuce of Spades within the Museum's outdoor amphitheater with an introduction by Granger.
The two hour period drama (rated PG-13) showcases a mysterious letter dating back to the '50s that a hot rod girl finds hidden in her roadster. It follows her search for the letter's author and the troubled past she uncovers about her Deuce. The heartfelt, inspiring story features fast hot rods, rockin' retro music and gravity defying swing dancing.
- 10:45 p.m. – Granger will answer questions and sign autographs within the Museum following the movie. Granger's Deuce of Spades is considered a landmark in independent cinema, a film she made entirely on her own, without a budget and little to no crew.
- Admission is $10 per person and limited to the first 125 guests. The nonprofit Walter P. Chrysler Museum will receive $4 from each ticket, which are available in advance at www.wpchryslermuseum.org. In the event of rain, the film will be shown in the Museum's theater.
- After-hours, self-guided Museum tours and food and soft drink concessions round out the evening. Bring lawn chairs and blankets for seating within the Museum's outdoor amphitheater.
Safe Families Expo, sponsored by Dodge – Saturday, Aug. 13, 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.
The Museum is partnering with Oakland Community College and the Combined Regional Emergency Services Training (CREST) program to host a family-focused event on the Museum's grounds featuring:
- A one-stop opportunity to learn the dos and don'ts of handling emergencies of all kinds through a wide range of police-, fire- and health-related demonstrations and displays.
- A classic car show along with a 1:30 p.m. Auburn Hills Police-escorted cruise (open to guests in both new and classic vehicles) beginning at the Museum and winding through the streets of downtown Auburn Hills, as well as the Chrysler headquarters complex and the seldom-seen-by-the-public CREST facilities.
- Admission is $5 per car and includes a goodie bag with local retailer coupons and valuable information. Advance registration is available at www.wpchryslermuseum.org.
