Actiontec to Develop Next Generation Intel WiDi Receiver
Wireless display receiver from Actiontec to deliver next generation Intel WiDi experience on your HD display
SUNNYVALE, Calif., May 14, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Actiontec Electronics today announced that it is the lead OEM to design next generation receiver device for the upcoming version of Intel WiDi technology for 4th gen Intel Core processors launching at Computex 2013.
Actiontec and Intel have collaborated closely on the product design for the past year. The resulting next-generation receiver device will support Intel WiDi and Wi-Fi Certified Miracast wireless display capable-devices (PCs, smartphones, and tablets). Consequently, the receiver can stream content from the millions of Intel WiDi and Miracast devices expected to come into the market in the coming months.
"Intel believes in freeing users from the need to carry cables to get the most from their mobile devices. To pursue this vision, Intel is working with a broad set of companies including mobile device and TV makers and app developers so that consumers can enjoy 2-screen experiences from their laptops, tablets, and phones to HDTVs. Intel is very excited that Actiontec has taken a lead in working with us to implement the next generation Intel WiDi experience enhancements," said Kerry Forell, Intel WiDi Product Line Manager at Intel.
This latest engagement follows on the success of Actiontec's first generation ScreenBeam that has already won the prestigious Gold Edison Award, Network Products Guide Award, and selected as a finalist for the upcoming 2013 Stevie awards. The next iteration will be highly optimized for upcoming UltrabookTM devices and provide advanced features, and significantly raise the bar for the overall wireless display experience.
"Expanding our relationship with Intel has been a milestone for Actiontec," said Dean Chang, Actiontec's CEO. "Just as the majority of Internet-enabled homes today have a Wi-Fi network, we believe that wireless display technology will achieve similar market acceptance. Giving people the ability to wirelessly connect to virtually any screen in their home is a real breakthrough. We're excited to give consumers the opportunity to enjoy the full power of Intel's most advanced wireless display standard on their display of choice."

Many PCs and Ultrabooks feature built-in Intel WiDi and Actiontec's receiver is a small TV adapter that plugs into an HDTV or other display to deliver the complete screen sharing experience.
