Google Inc. Research Reports
On August 15, 2014, TechCrunch reported that Google Inc. (Google) has acquired the team behind Jetpac. As per the TechCrunch report, the Company is expected to use the Jetpac team to enhance search around location information by photo data. According to the article, Jetpac's CTO Pete Warden is a computer vision professional and a perfect fit for a Google acquisition at this juncture. The report highlighted that Jetpac's system locates visual signs, for instance the amount of pictures with mustaches in them to conclude the fashion style or how many hipsters are in a particular site. This provides distinctive background information about an area where the photo was taken. Jetpac has also attained real-time local object recognition on video from a phone's camera. This technology could conceivably augment Google Goggles. According to the TechCrunch report, Jetpac will soon be drawing out the app from the App store in the coming days and will cease the support on September 15, 2014.
