Acera Voted 'Best Unmet Clinical Need' at MassMEDIC MedTech Showcase 2017
Simple, low-cost approach to medical device lighting proves brighter isn't always better
BEVERLY, Mass., Nov. 2, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Acera, LLC a Massachusetts-based start-up focused on OEM LED lighting solutions for endoscopy and other technical applications, was voted to have met the Best Unmet Clinical Need at the MassMEDIC MedTech Showcase held at the Westin Waltham/Boston last week.
Acera competed for the title against 18 other companies that presented their cutting-edge medical technologies to more than 200 industry professionals at the MassMEDIC MedTech showcase. It is the region's largest medtech showcase for medtech start-ups, providing attendees with a preview of the newest medical technologies and a unique opportunity to interact with fellow entrepreneurs.
Acera's core technology is a patent-pending total internal reflection (TIR) elliptical optic that optimizes the light sent through the device. This optic is incorporated into engineered lighting solutions that allow OEM's to focus their attention on their core technology and product development.
"Years ago, Xenon became the industry standard because many believed brighter light was the best light," noted Tom Root, Co-Founder and President of Acera, LLC. "With the introduction of the new generation of LED's we've disrupted that notion and proven that it's not about having the brightest light, it's about channeling enough light from the source to get the job done."
Acera's LED module can be easily embedded into the handles of endoscopes and other medical devices allowing portability of the device to improve patient care and offering significant cost savings in a compact package.
Acera markets to endoscopy OEMs both reusable and single-use, group purchasing organizations and distributors in medical, veterinary and dental and third-party repair companies.
