Acentia Awarded $2.5 Million Contract from U.S. Patent and Trademark Office
FALLS CHURCH, Va., April 21, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Acentia, a premier provider of technology and management solutions, today announced it was awarded a 1-year, $2.5-million contract by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). The company will provide software design and development services to develop and implement Phase 2 of the Agency's Cooperative Patent Classification (CPC) Database project.
The CPC effort is a joint partnership between the USPTO and the European Patent Office (EPO) where the Offices have agreed to harmonize their existing classification systems (European Classification (ECLA) and United States Patent Classification (USPC), respectively) and migrate towards a common classification structure.
Acentia will enhance the existing CPC applications to allow the patent examiners improved access to CPC symbols and allocations, as well as respond to EPO Raised Hand Flags (RHF). The company will also analyze the CPC functional requirements to increase system performance and help patent examiners perform their duties more efficiently.
"We are honored that Acentia has been selected to again support the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office," said David Shuping, Acentia Sector Executive. "The CPC work complements our current portfolio of USPTO projects and establishes Acentia as a trusted partner with the Agency."
In addition to this new award, Acentia currently performs the operations and maintenance of the USPTO's mission-critical Patent Application Location and Monitoring (PALM) systems and provides software development services for its PALM and other legacy Patent systems.
