SAN DIEGO, April 10, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Accelrys, Inc. (NASDAQ: ACCL), a leading provider of scientific innovation lifecycle management software and solutions, today announced the latest releases of Accelrys Insight and Accelrys Insight for Excel. The new release of Accelrys Insight for Excel enhances scientific data analysis with important new capabilities including the ability to run database searches directly from the familiar Microsoft Excel spreadsheet environment. The new release of the web-based Accelrys Insight life science, discovery and innovation support environment speeds decisions by simplifying access to complex hierarchical data and implementing data-rich tooltips for scatterplots. The two releases continue the rapid evolution of Accelrys' next-generation solution for interactively searching, browsing and visualizing data within the Accelrys Cheminformatics Suite, helping networked life science discovery teams bring innovative therapeutics to market faster and more cost effectively. Both products leverage the open, scientifically aware Accelrys Enterprise Platform which provides a single consistent way for applications to access both internal data and public data accessible via web services.
"Today's information-driven life science research requires a modern approach to knowledge management that lets scientists make fast, informed decisions about how to move projects forward," said Leif E. Pedersen, senior vice president of marketing, product management and corporate development, Accelrys. "The latest releases of Accelrys Insight for Excel and Accelrys Insight are important steps in the evolution of an improved, end-to-end scientific decision support environment driving improved collaboration, innovation and productivity in life science discovery."
The latest release of Accelrys Insight for Excel accelerates data analysis with the ability to run database searches from a Microsoft Excel workbook. Medicinal chemists can access rich and diverse corporate and public data sources directly from Excel spreadsheets and import refined search results back into the spreadsheets without leaving the familiar Excel environment. Scientists engaged in pharmacokinetics research can now calculate absorption, distribution, metabolism, excretion and toxicity (ADMET) chemistry properties for chemical structures loaded into an Excel spreadsheet. The new calculators for blood brain barrier penetration, human intestinal absorption, aqueous solubility, plasma protein binding and hepatotoxicity provide more information to make decisions about the appropriateness of compounds. Finally, new chemical-name-from-structure and structure-from-chemical-name calculators make it easier for scientists to connect associated data items.
The latest release of Accelrys Insight speeds informed decisions by providing scalable access to complex hierarchical data and improved support for data analysis and visualization. These capabilities are provided through a set of new and enhanced Accelrys Pipeline Pilot components that protocol authors can use to simplify the processes used by end-user scientists to access, chart and perform calculations on hierarchical data. The Accelrys Pipeline Pilot protocol authoring application enables developers to tailor scientific calculations, visualizations, exports and reports targeted to specific needs and expertise within the Accelrys Insight environment. The latest release of Accelrys Insight also enables the creation of data-rich tooltips that automatically display chemical properties and structures in X-Y scatterplots if molecular data are loaded in Accelrys Insight, providing ready access to rich data objects.
Accelrys Insight for Excel is the next generation of Accelrys' scientific Excel add-ins within the legacy ISIS, Isentris and Accord product suites. Accelrys Insight is the next-generation solution for current Accelrys ISIS, Accelrys Isentris and Accelrys Accord applications for searching, browsing and visualizing data.
