Acadia Insurance Celebrates 25 Years Serving Northeast Businesses
Company has become a leading writer of commercial lines in New England through its personalized, closer coverage approach
WESTBROOK, Maine, July 11, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Acadia Insurance, a Berkley Company®, is celebrating 25 years of providing insurance services to businesses throughout the Northeast. Acadia has developed into a leading property and casualty insurance provider, employing approximately 400 individuals.
Founded in response to the Maine Worker's Compensation crisis of the early '90s, Acadia opened its first location in South Portland, Maine in March 1992. After receiving official recognition from the Department of Insurance on June 18, 1992, the company began enhancing its coverage with offerings such as Property, Liability, Auto and Umbrella.
Acadia progressed steadily over the next decade expanding into Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York and Vermont under the leadership of then presidents Bob Cole and Bill Thornton. Those efforts enabled the company to become a leading writer of commercial lines insurance in New England by 2005 – only 13 years after its inception.
In recent years, Acadia continued to develop specialized services and products to satisfy the perpetually changing needs of its customers. In 2009, under the leadership of Bill Rohde, Acadia established dedicated small business units to better serve its agents and small business customers. That same year, the company launched an agribusiness program to attract customers in the farm industry. The company was re-branded in 2010 to embrace the mantra of "Closer Coverage," capturing Acadia's culture and value proposition: to strengthen our local communities and serve our customers by delivering superior product and service locally, with a personal touch. This personalized understanding of the unique risks local businesses face enables Acadia to provide customized insurance solutions.
Acadia also supports its local communities philanthropically. Since 2008, Acadia has donated more than $650,000 and 4,500 hours in support of local organizations focusing on prevalent needs such as job and skill development.
Current President Doug Nelson joined Acadia in 2011 and during his tenure, propelled Acadia to grow by a further 50%. "Over the past 25 years, Acadia has laid the groundwork for a strong and successful future and the road ahead looks brighter than ever," said Doug Nelson. "The next 25 years will present different opportunities and challenges; however, with commitment from our employees to uphold our core values, I am certain we will capitalize on these exciting opportunities."
The company recently commemorated its 25th anniversary with a special employee celebration at the Omni Mt. Washington Resort in Bretton Woods, New Hampshire.
