Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Honored With ASAE Gold Circle Award, Honorable Mention
CHICAGO, June 6, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics received the American Society of Association Executive's top award, the highly coveted Gold Circle Award, in the website category for www.HomeFoodSafety.org. The award recognizes excellence in association and nonprofit communications.
On Wednesday, June 5, registered dietitian nutritionist and Academy President Glenna McCollum, DMOL, MPH, accepted the Gold Circle Award for www.HomeFoodSafety.org on behalf of the Academy, as well as Honorable Mention in the Media/Public Relations Campaign category for the Academy's National Nutrition Month.
"The Academy works to empower our members to become the food and nutrition leaders, and also to promote the nation's nutritional health through the National Nutrition Month campaign and programs such as Home Food Safety," McCollum said.
The www.HomeFoodSafety.org website is a feature of the Academy and ConAgra Foods' collaborative Home Food Safety program, dedicated to raising consumer awareness about the serious issue of food poisoning and providing solutions for easily and safely handling food in the home.
"We're very proud of our partnership with the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics on the Home Food Safety program and the impact this program has made in helping consumers use sound food safety principles in their homes," said Dr. Al Bolles, executive vice president of research, quality and innovation at ConAgra Foods. "Nothing is more important to ConAgra Foods than food safety, which extends all the way from the farm into the kitchen."
Entries for the Gold Circle Award competition were evaluated in each category based on established criteria for excellence in association marketing, membership and communication programs. Judges were experienced marketing, membership and communication professionals from associations, nonprofits and for-profit organizations.

All registered dietitians are nutritionists – but not all nutritionists are registered dietitians. The Academy's Board of Directors and Commission on Dietetic Registration have determined that those who hold the credential registered dietitian (RD) may optionally use "registered dietitian nutritionist" (RDN) instead. The two credentials have identical meanings.
