Academic Health Centers to Address the Transformation of Patient Care
AAHC Annual Meeting to Focus on Improving Patient and Population Health in New Era
WASHINGTON, July 9, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The patient and community remain at the center of the academic health center mission. In this era of substantial changes in healthcare – driven by a variety of economic, social, scientific, and technological trends – the focus of the Association of Academic Health Centers (AAHC) Annual Meeting in Chicago September 17-19 is on how patients and academic health centers are transforming one another.
"By bringing together academic health center and healthcare leaders offering a deep continuum of experience and thought leadership regarding the changing patient care environment at its Annual Meeting, AAHC remains squarely committed to advancing and improving health and well-being," said AAHC President and CEO, Dr. Steven A. Wartman, adding "it is vital for leaders in clinical care, health professions education, and biomedical and clinical research to have this opportunity to exchange knowledge, share best practices, and build on successes."
Attendees at the meeting will explore cutting-edge ideas, collaborative practices, and disruptive technologies that are being implemented nationally and globally including: novel patient care teams; technologies that allow patients to receive care in multiple locations; management of large patient data sets; the impact of the democratization of medical knowledge on care delivery; frontiers of patient satisfaction; and the impact of online communities and social media on the behavior of patients and health systems.
"With all the changes swirling around healthcare – changes in financing, delivery systems, and technology that impact the academic health center core missions of education, research, and clinical care – it is important and timely to remain focused on the patient," said Wartman.
AAHC's Annual Meeting, to be held at the Conrad Chicago Hotel, is open to key leaders, faculty, and staff from its member institutions.
The AAHC is a non-profit association dedicated to advancing health and well-being through the vigorous leadership of academic health centers.
