Abyrx™ Announces National Distribution Partnership with Unify Surgical to Support Growing Demand for Abyrx's Biosurgical Products in the United States' Cardiothoracic Surgery Marketplace
IRVINGTON, N.Y., June 17, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Abyrx™, Inc., a privately‐held specialty biosurgical products company, today announced it has partnered with Unify Surgical to significantly expand the distribution of its hemostatic bone putty products (AHBP™, Hemasorb™, Hemasorb Apply™, and Hemasorb Plus™) to cardiothoracic surgeries throughout the United States. Under the terms of the agreement, Unify will have leadership responsibility for representing Abyrx's products in a regional territory and for aggregating additional cardiothoracic distributors throughout the United States. Abyrx and Unify will use the Kairuku™ Platform to organize a variable commissioning structure for their affiliate distribution representatives and to track product utilization at the point‐of‐care to ensure accurate and timely reporting of sales and compensation.
Founded by cardiothoracic market veterans Harry McDonald and Jim Wood, Unify is the premier cardiothoracic-focused independent distribution agency with significant management experience and success in identifying, acquiring, and commercializing clinically relevant products in the cardiothoracic market. Abyrx will use the Kairuku Platform to seamlessly integrate Unify's representatives and their affiliate partners into Abyrx's existing distribution network, which currently comprises several hundred cardiothoracic, craniomaxillofacial, orthopaedic, and spine representatives. Abyrx will maintain responsibility for its own product training and payment of compensation owed to Unify and its affiliate partners.
Commenting on the announced partnership, Unify's Principals, Harry McDonald and Jim Wood, issued the following joint statement, "Abyrx has the most comprehensive product offering in the bone hemostasis marketplace and a very rich and exciting product pipeline. Using the Kairuku Platform, we are confident that Unify can help achieve the full market potential for Abyrx's products in cardiothoracic surgery. Kairuku is a game-changing technology that will enable us to aggregate cardiothoracic distributors throughout the United States and connect them to Abyrx and other manufacturers seeking to optimize their access to the point-of-care in ways otherwise not achievable."
Remarking on the significance of Abyrx's partnership with Unify Surgical, John J. Pacifico, Abyrx's President and Chief Executive Officer, stated, "Responsible product education and excellent delivery of service in the cardiothoracic surgery marketplace require extraordinary and professional leadership. As we analyzed options to achieve our cardiothoracic surgery distribution objectives, it was obvious that Unify was well positioned to help. Harry and Jim share our vision, have a track record that is predicative of continued success, and manage their team and organization to extremely high standards."
David Hart, Abyrx's Chief Operating Officer, will have primary responsibility for working with Unify to expand Abyrx's reach into cardiothoracic surgeries and leading Abyrx's product education initiatives. Adding to John's comments, David stated, "Indeed, we are thrilled about the opportunity to work with Unify and use Kairuku to bolster Abyrx's ability to access and service hundreds of thousands of cardiothoracic surgeries performed each year in the United States."
Abyrx's distribution partnership with Unify is the second distribution deal the Company has announced this year. In March, Abyrx signed a similar partnership agreement with leading orthopedic and spine distributor SurgiCor, LLC. To further support the uptake of AHBP, Hemasorb, Hemasorb Apply, and Hemasorb Plus among surgeons, Abyrx's professional account liaison team members will continue to use the Kairuku Platform to recruit and partner with leading independent product representatives throughout the United States.
