Abt Associates to Measure and Manage Carbon Emissions
Company joins government and industry leaders as member of The Climate Registry
CAMBRIDGE, Mass., June 26, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Abt Associates announced today that it has joined The Climate Registry, a voluntary greenhouse gas registry in North America, in an effort to measure and reduce the company's greenhouse gas emissions.
The Climate Registry is a non-profit organization that operates the only voluntary carbon footprint registry in North America supported by states, provinces, territories and tribes.
"At Abt, we are not only applying our creativity and technical expertise to mitigate the impact of climate change for our clients, but we are also reducing our own environmental footprint as part of our commitment to the environment," said Kathleen Flanagan, President and CEO of Abt Associates.
Measuring and mitigating Abt's own greenhouse gas emissions is a key aspect of Abt's commitment to sustainability, and in 2012, Abt developed a comprehensive footprint of emissions from facilities' use, business air travel, and employees' commutes.
"Abt Associates is demonstrating true environmental leadership by committing to report their carbon emissions in a public, transparent and credible way," said Doug Scott, chair of The Climate Registry and chairman of the Illinois Commerce Commission.
Abt will publish its first environmental sustainability report this summer.
