Absolute Total Care and Pee Dee Community Action Partnership help residents of Nichols and Sellers "Rise Above the Storm"
COLUMBIA, S.C., March 28, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- Absolute Total Care and Pee Dee Community Action Partnership (PDCAP) held two outreach events in March for the residents of Sellers and Nichols, South Carolina. The events, part of the 2019 "Rise Above the Storm" Outreach Project, gathered the communities together and provided each household with a gift card for groceries. The outreach project was created in response to the devastation caused by Hurricane Florence in September of 2018.
While the residents of Sellers and Nichols continue to recover from the damage caused by Hurricane Florence, Absolute Total Care and PDCAP want the community to know we are taking action to improve the health of affected residents.
"We want the communities of Sellers and Nichols to know that we stand with them in their recovery efforts. They have not been forgotten and we continue to look for ways to support the residents of Marion County impacted by Hurricane Florence," said John McClellan, Plan President and CEO for Absolute Total Care.
More than 75 residents of Sellers attended Friday's first outreach event, located at the Sellers Town Hall.
"These grocery store gift cards came at a time of need, and I want to thank Absolute Total Care and Pee Dee Community Action Partnership for bringing hope to the townspeople of Sellers and letting them know someone cares about them. This event was a true blessing for our town," said Barbara Hopkins, Mayor of Sellers.
"The citizens of Marion County were adversely affected by the Hurricanes, especially Nichols, Sellers, and Britton's Neck. It will take collective efforts from everyone to make us whole again," said Walter Fleming, PDCAP Executive Director.
More than 80 residents of Nichols attended the second outreach event, located at the Nichols Town Hall.
"After suffering from two major floods, understandably, the citizens are physically, emotionally, and mentally hurt and traumatized," said Michaela Hufford, Disaster Recovery Coordinator for the Town of Nichols. "It is groups like Absolute Total Care and Pee Dee Community Action Partnership who come in and give a donation like these grocery store gift cards that restores the hope. It lets the citizens know that they are not forgotten about and that they are cared for. The Town of Nichols staff is forever grateful."
In addition, PDCAP and Absolute Total Care will host a "Rise Above the Storm" Community Empowerment Event on Saturday, April 13. The event aims to inspire families that were impacted by Hurricanes Matthew (2016) and Florence (2018) in Marion County.
Registration for the Rise Above the Storm Community Empowerment Event is through Eventbrite https://www.eventbrite.com/e/rise-above-the-storm-a-community-empowerment-event-tickets-58742899594.
