Abre Joins Project Unicorn Vendor Coalition to Help Drive Data Interoperability Standards in Schools
Signs Project Unicorn Pledge to Advance Greater Cooperation, More Informed Decisions
CINCINNATI, July 12, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Leading school management platform provider Abre.io announced today it has signed the Vendor Pledge, as part of its participation in Project Unicorn, an initiative to get school districts and vendors to agree on data interoperability standards for technology implementations in school districts.
"We are very pleased to be a part of Project Unicorn Vendor Pledge," said Abre VP of Instruction, Zach Vander Veen. "Districts understand that data interoperability is important to make data flow easily, safely, and elegantly across applications. This is very important to Abre because our solution is agnostic and works with any number of applications. Interoperability just makes it easier for educators to work with data within our platform, regardless of the source. This results in better decision making."
Project Unicorn is an effort to improve data interoperability within K-12 education. The organization doesn't define the standard - just makes those involved agree to support the concept of data interoperability. The organization aims to create a community of innovators who make the broader case for secure interoperability by determining shared priorities, working in partnership with school systems and vendors to understand its importance and benefits, and educating buyers to consider the total cost of ownership through informed comparison of vendors.
As part of participation, school districts sign the Project Unicorn District Pledge while vendors such as Abre sign the Project Unicorn Vendor Pledge as part of the Vendor Coalition. "This movement would not be possible without a partnership between like-minded vendors and school districts who become uncommon allies to solve one of the most pressing problems in K-12 education today. Abre is a true leader in this space as an early adopter of the Project Unicorn Vendor pledge," said Erin Mote, Executive Director of InnovateEDU, the non-profit leader of Project Unicorn.
"Historically, data has been siloed in schools which made getting data out of their respective silos time consuming," Vander Veen said. "Data interoperability saves time because data is easily used across applications and users can more effectively draw insights from the data to make decisions. It is very important to us because the Abre platform can more effectively display data in ways that help teachers make informed decisions about their classroom."
