"Neil's track record of building a world renowned brand on the web is exactly what About.com needs," said Doug Leeds, chief executive officer of Ask.com, which acquired About.com in September of 2012. "Neil's entrepreneurial mindset and boundless energy combined with About.com's incredible content, traffic and revenue will fuel huge success for both the company and the brand."
As founder and later CEO, Mr. Vogel built Recognition Media's business from the ground up, launching, acquiring and growing media and awards properties such as the Webby Awards, Internet Week NY and Europe, the Netted.net daily email, and The Telly Awards. Prior to Recognition Media, Mr. Vogel was part of the senior management team at Alloy Media + Marketing, a digital content and marketing services company focused on the teen and youth market, where he played an integral role in taking the business from start-up to more than $300 million in revenue and $50 million in cash flow in fewer than five years. Mr. Vogel also serves as a venture partner at FirstMark Capital.
"There aren't many truly meaningful destination sites on the Internet today, and About.com is one of them," said Mr. Vogel. "Sixty-five million people a month trust About's guide network to help them solve problems, answer questions and learn, and I am thrilled to have the opportunity to dig in with the entire team and unlock its incredible brand potential."
