PHILADELPHIA, May 18, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Aberdeen Asset Management Inc. ("Aberdeen"), a global asset management firm with North American headquarters in Philadelphia, and Knowledge@Wharton High School closed out Financial Literacy Month in April with the 2016 Aberdeen/Knowledge@Wharton High School Investment Challenge Finale.
The 2016 Investment Challenge saw over 2,000 students from around the world compete for 'best investment strategy' over the course of 10 weeks. Sixteen finalists, including teams from the U.S., India and China were invited to present before a panel of Aberdeen investment professionals. The winners of the 2016 Investment Challenge included:
- 1st Place: Western Trade from West Ranch High School in Stevenson Ranch, California
- 2nd Place: OMG Capital from Moanalua High School in Honolulu, Hawaii
- 3rd Place: Wolves of D-Street from Amity International School in Noida, India
For the last four years, Aberdeen and Knowledge@Wharton High School have worked in tandem to foster and develop financial literacy through this in-depth investment competition. Working in teams, students manage a hypothetical investment portfolio and compose an investment thesis that outlines and articulates their philosophy, process and what they learned. At the finale, students present their final strategies to an Aberdeen panel, which evaluates each team on a number of criteria including articulation, creativity and presentation skills.
"It has been exciting to see the evolution of this competition, which began in early 2012 as a pilot project with a handful of Philadelphia teams, into a truly global experience. The growth is so much more than the fact that we are now reaching thousands of students through the game," says Diana Drake, managing editor of Knowledge@Wharton High School, a creator of educational business and finance resources for high school students and educators. "The inspiration comes in what students do with their new financial knowledge."
Andrew Smith, Co-Head of Aberdeen in the Americas comments: "For many of these students, this competition is their first exposure to investing of any kind. We hope that this competition gives them a bit more confidence and teaches skills that will translate well into any career or future endeavor they may find themselves."
In addition to the Knowledge@Wharton High School Investment Challenge, Aberdeen continues to promote its financial literacy webpage throughout the year, which features quirky video clips and unique resources on financial education and basic financial literacy concepts.
