ABBYY USA Partners With the National Forest Foundation
ABBYY to donate to NFF tree-planting program For every trial download of FineReader 11 OCR solution
MILPITAS, Calif., April 10, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- ABBYY®, a leading provider of document recognition, document capture, and linguistic technologies and professional services, today announced its partnership with the National Forest Foundation (NFF). As a part of the effort to restore National Forests and Grasslands, ABBYY will donate to the NFF's tree-planting program with every trial download of ABBYY FineReader 11. Together, ABBYY and the NFF will help to restore Idaho's Nez Perce National Forest and the Hells Canyon National Recreation Area – forested areas that were damaged from natural disasters and wildfires.
"America's National Forests and grasslands play a critical role in the overall health of the environment and our communities, as they produce the clean air and water that citizens and wildlife need," said Greg Peters, development program coordinator, National Forest Foundation. "Through partnerships with corporations such as ABBYY, the NFF is revitalizing America's forests and improving the future for generations of Americans."
For more than 20 years ABBYY has been committed to providing products and services that improve efficiency and decrease the consumption of paper. ABBYY's FineReader 11 is an optical character recognition (OCR) solution that is designed to limit the use of paper by allowing users to digitize paper documents and photos into editable, searchable electronic formats. In conjunction with the NFF, ABBYY will promote throughout the month of April the importance of conserving paper to conserve America's National Forests and Grasslands.
For each trial download of ABBYY FineReader 11, the NFF will plant ponderosa pine and western larch trees in the Nez Perce National Forest and Hells Canyon National Recreation Area that were decimated by Idaho's Poe Cabin Fire in 2007. The loss of trees impacted the rivers surrounding the Nez Perce National Forest and Hells Canyon National Recreation Area, which serve as the habitat for varieties of native fish and as a favorite fishing spot for locals and visitors alike. As the new seedlings begin to take root and grow, these trees will provide a myriad of benefits for the forests and the surrounding communities.
"ABBYY USA supports and shares the National Forest Foundation's goal of healthy forests and grasslands," said Dean Tang, CEO of ABBYY, USA. "We look forward to a long-lasting partnership with the National Forest Foundation as their commitment aligns with ABBYY's vision to move consumers toward a paperless environment."
The promotion will kick off April 10, 2012 with a goal of reaching 5,000 trial downloads of ABBYY FineReader 11. To download a trial version of ABBYY FineReader 11 please visit, http://www.abbyygogreen.com.
